Female Stars Wear Red
Yesterday, a group of female stars took to wearing red on National Wear Red Day. A star-studded event took place in New York's Fashion District for a good cause - awareness for heart health in women. First Lady Laura Bush kicked off the annual National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's campaign for "Heart Truth," according to Forbes.
Mrs. Bush, the campaign's national manager, told the audience at the fashion show, "The Heart Truth is this -- heart disease is the leading cause of death for American women."
Attendees at the event included stars like Liza Minnelli, Allison Janney, Joss Stone and Heidi Klum. They later dawned red dresses on the runway to show their support. Minnelli also sang "New York, New York" for the crowd.
The NHLBI Director, Dr. Elizabeth Nabel, stated, "We tend to think of heart disease as a man's disease. But the truth is that since 1991 more women have died each year of heart disease than men. And that's why we began this campaign -- to communicate that, in fact, heart disease kills more women each year than all cancers combined."
