Ferrell’s ‘The Other Guys’ Captures Box Office Crown

The buddy cop comedy drew $35.6 million-worth of audiences across the nation

Dream thriller Inception’s three-week run at the top of the box office charts has come to an end, as the Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg buddy cop farce The Other Guys debuted at No. 1 with a domestic total of $35.6 million over the three-day period, reports MTV News.

The film, directed by frequent Ferrell collaborator Adam McKay, also features Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Eva Mendes in supporting roles. The box office success comes as a welcome relief for Ferrell and Wahlberg, both of whose box office prowess has come into question of late with commercial duds like Land of the Lost (Ferrell) and Max Payne (Wahlberg).

Inception, which landed at No. 2 this week with $18.6 million, raised its domestic total to a whopping $227.7 million since it debuted four weeks ago.

Also appearing in the top five was the only other wide release of the weekend, dance flick Step Up 3-D. The film’s debut was smaller than both of its predecessors, but it still managed to put together a decent weekend, entering the chart at No. 3 with $15.5 million.

The fourth and fifth spots were taken by Angelina Jolie's action flick Salt and Steve Carell's comedy Dinner For Schmucks, with $11.1 and $10.5 million, respectively.
