Ferrell Is Not Worth His Cost
If Forbes had it their way, Will Ferrell would not be starring in "Land of the Lost." Instead, he would be sentenced to the land of the lost, the land of the lost actors that is.
According to Forbes' latest celebrity list, Will Ferrell is "Hollywood's most overpaid star." Forbes suggests that Ferrell is not a good investment anymore based on the fact that for every dollar he is paid, the movie only earns an average of $3.39.
Ferrell was not always so useless in terms of raking in money. Hits like "Elf" and "Talladega Nights" earned $220 million and $162 million, respectively.
The problem is with his recent movies. "Semi Pro" only earned a paltry $43 million while "Land of the Lost" cost approximately $100 million to make and only brought in "65 million."
Other stars who landed on the list for commanding high salaries while not benefitting sales greatly were Ewan McGregor, Eddie Murphy, and Tom Cruise.
In compiling the list of "Hollywood's 10 Most Overpaid Stars," Forbes considered the stars' income from their past three films, including up-front pay and later earnings from box office receipts, and DVD and TV sales. To determine the three films' earnings, they factored in budget and box office sales and DVD and TV earnings. The second number was then divided by the first to provide the "return-on-investment" number.
