Ferris Bueller Alum Hit With New Charges

The registered sex offender failed to notify authorities he had moved.

Jeffrey Jones, the actor who played Principal Ed Rooney in the 1986 teen comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off, was arrested July 1 at his home in Sarasota, Florida, and charged with failing to register as a sex offender.

Jones, 57, plead no contest last July to charges he hired a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually-explicit photos. The actor was initially arrested in November of 2002, following a child pornography investigation that also resulted in the arrest of Pee Wee Herman actor, Paul Reubens. While Reubens charge was dropped, Jones was given five years probation and ordered to undergo counseling, as well as, register as a sex offender.

Although Jones registered last year, he failed to notify the authorities when he moved in March, which the law requires him to do within 48 hours. After being charged, the actor was released on $1,000 bond.

Aside from his most famous role as Principal Rooney, Jones has starred in films such as Sleepy Hollow, Ed Wood, and How High.
