It doesn't look like we're getting a sequel...

Friday, it was reported that a mysterious YouTube video featuring actor Matthew Broderick reprising his role in the hit 1986 film, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, was uploaded Thursday. The video appeared to be a teaser for a commercial to run during the Super Bowl on February 5. Shortly after the Internet exploded with people wondering what the ad would be for, a site that covers car news reported that it is likely for Honda.

According to Japolnik, a source from Honda told the site that it is for the car company and has nothing to do with a potential sequel, although it will shed some light on Ferris’ life 25 years after high school.

The source added that the commercial will follow most of the events of the film, except Cameron’s Ferrari will be replaced with a Honda CR-V.

MTV News reports that Japolnik was also told that Honda threw a lot of money into making the ad, even hiring The Hangover director Todd Phillips to direct the spot.

While Broderick looks like he enjoyed reprising the character in the spot, one of the other film’s stars, Alan Ruck, who played Cameron Frye, is not so enthusiastic about the new attention the film is getting. Ruck told USA Today that he is not excited about the commercial. "Sometimes it does get a little bit old...Boy, that's the character that wouldn't die,” he said. Ruck currently stars in Goats, an indie film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in which he plays the headmaster of a boys’ prep school.

Still, Ruck had to admit that it is nice that the film continues to be appreciated. "It's a nice escapist movie and it reminds a lot of people of their youth. It's always nice to be part of something that keeps going," Ruck said.

The new video has now been viewed on YouTube over 2.4 million times. You can watch it again below:
