The fight against Phishing rages on
Users of Yahoo! e-mail should notice a decrease in the number of scam e-mails that receive that attempt to steal their PayPal or eBay account information thanks to an alliance between Yahoo! and eBay.
According to the Washington Post's web site, "EBay and Yahoo! announced a partnership today that involves a technology developed by Yahoo! called 'DomainKeys' to filter out such messages."
The software enables eBay and PayPal users to send e-mails with special cryptographic signatures. Then the receiving network, like Yahoo! for instance, agrees to block any e-mails that claim they are from eBay or PayPal but not have this signature.
"While the battle against phishing and identity theft scammers will continue to require a multi-faceted approach, today's announcement demonstrates the power of DomainKeys and the security benefits to be gained by e-mail users worldwide," PayPal CEO Michael Barrett said.
