Final Chapter of ‘Shrek’ to Open Tribeca Film Festival

Final chapter will make world premiere in New York

‘Shrek Forever After,’ the fourth and final installment of the successful DreamWorks Animation franchise, will open the Tribeca Film Festival next month.

The movie, which is the final chapter of the series, will be making its world-wide 3-D premiere during the festival.

The film will be shown on the festival’s opening night, April 21, and the festival runs until May 2. It will be released across the United States May 21.

According to Reuters, the core cast of the film is unchanged, with Mike Myers reprising his role as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as the donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona and Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots.

In the movie, Shrek goes through a mid-life crisis and longs for the days where he felt less like a family man and more like a ‘real’ ogre.

The festival was co-founded by actor Robert de Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff in 2001 as an effort to help revitalize the Tribeca neighborhood after the 9/11 attacks. It has screened over 1,100 films from over 80 countries since it began in 2002.

“We have always sought to open our Festival with films that are captivating and strike an emotional chord with movie-goers,” Rosenthal said in a statement.

This year’s festival will announce its official feature film slate on March 10 and March 15.
