'Final Destination' Tops Box Office Friday

The fourth movie in the popular franchise will most likely earn more than expected.

The Final Destination topped the box office Friday, grossing $10.9 million on its opening day.

The 3-D Warner Bros. horror movie, the fourth installment of the series, is predicted to earn close to $30 million by the end of the weekend, which is more than originally expected.

The biggest of all the movies in the franchise, the film, directed by David R. Ellis, played in 3,121 theaters. At first, the film was supposed to be released only on DVD.

Coming in second place was Weinstein Co.'s Dimension Film label's "Halloween II," earning $7.6 million. "Halloween," the film's predecessor, earned more when it opened in 2007.

"Inglourious Basterds" came in third, taking in $5.9 million. The No. 1 movie from last week fell 59 percent.

In its third week of release, "District 9" earned $3 million, coming in fourth, while "G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" came in fifth, earning $2.3 million.
