Final Shrek Movie to Open Tribeca Film Festival
The fourth and final installment in DreamWorks Animation's 'Shrek' series, Shrek Forever After, will open on Tribeca's first night, April 21, and will run until May 2. The movie is the first and only of the series to utilize 3D.
The choice to open one of the most prominent festivals in the country with a film of such a heavily commercialized nature may seem odd to some, but the festival committee stands by its decision.
"We have always sought to open our Festival with films that are captivating and strike an emotional chord with movie-goers," said Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of the festival. "Shrek Forever After combines the very best in storytelling and artistry while showcasing the wonders of innovative 3D filmmaking."
Jeffrey Katzenberg, studio boss and co-founder, added, "DreamWorks Animation is honored. It is a great privilege and tribute to our entire cast and crew to have been chosen as this year's opening night selection."
The main Shrek cast will remain unchanged for the fourth film. Mike Myers stars as the titular ogre, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, and Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots.
Shrek Forever After will be released nationwide on May 21.
