With the Grammy Awards exactly a month away, the Recording Academy announced Thursday morning the first artists who have confirmed to perform during the show. Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, The Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson will all appear on the show.
In the announcement, the Academy noted that the Foo Fighters and Mars lead those set to perform with six nominations. The Foo Fighters’ Wasting Light has been nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. Their track “Walk” was nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song and “White Limo” was nominated for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. The group was also nominated for Best Long Form Music Video for Foo Fighters: Back And Forth.
Mars’ nominations include Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Grenade" and Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Doo-Wops & Hooligans. He was also nominated as Non Classical Producer of the Year for his work as a member of the Smeezingtons.
Minaj is up for four awards, including Best New Artist, while country stars Swift and Aldean are up for three. Clarkson is up for two.
MTV News notes that traditionally, the most-nominated artists will perform, but there is no word yet if Kanye West, who was nominated for seven, and Adele, who was nominated for six, will perform. Adele is still recovering from throat surgery, although there is a report that she is in talks to at least attend the ceremony.
According to AceShowBiz, the Recording Academy welcomed Minaj as a performer on the official awards show Twitter page. The rapper is also featured on the 2012 Grammy Nominees Album, which will be released on Jan. 24.
The 54th Grammy Awards will be broadcast on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS. The Academy will announce more performers and presenters in the next few weeks leading up to the ceremony.
