The first promo for The Muppets movie starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams debuted on the Internet today. The trailer is a spoof advertising a movie called Green with Envy, which looks like a romantic comedy.
Halfway through the trailer, Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppet gang appear and it becomes clear that the trailer is really for a Muppet movie starring Segel and Adams.
You can see the trailer here and a poster for the fake movie here.
This Muppet adventure is about friends Walter (a muppet-type puppet himself), Gary (Segel), and Mary (Adams). Walter is “the world’s biggest Muppet fan” and the three depart from Smalltown, USA to New York to stop oilman Tex Richman from tearing down the Muppet Theater.
The friends try to produce The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever to fund raise the $10 million needed to save the theater. Kermit teams up with them to reunite the Muppet gang: Fozzie plays with a tribute band (the Moopets) in Reno, Miss Piggy is a fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in anger management, and Gonzo owns a successful plumbing company.
The last Muppet movie in theaters, Muppets in Space is now 11 years old. The gang also made a less popular TV movie, The Muppet’s Wizard of Oz starring Ashanti in 2005.
When The Muppets moved hands to Disney in 2004 we all knew that bigger and greater things lay in the future for the well-loved group. Segel and Nick Stoller (director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall) co-wrote the script.
The Muppet Movie will hit theaters November 23.
