Ladies, we are all guilty -- or know someone who is -- of making fashion faux pas. Wearing jeans that fit a little too tight or shirts that ride up showing tattoos at work; you know what I am talking about.
But What Not to Wear fashion guru Clinton Kelly's new book, Oh No She Didn't: The Top One Hundred Style Mistakes Women Make and How to Avoid Them, highlights over a hundred fashion mistakes women make. Here are five of them:
1. The Mom Jeans: I am pretty sure you have seen women wearing these. They say they are "comfortable" and "hold them in." Let me tell you, these are one of the most egregious crimes against fashion ever committed. First of all, They make your tush look horrible, and the tapered leg isn't a good look on anyone. As Kelly says, "Throw your old jeans into the biggest, most raging, blazing fire you can find."
2. Scuffed Shoes: I happen to be guilty of this one myself...but, I eventually retired my scuffed up, reliable shoes, and so should you. According to the book, "The shoe always, always, always sets the tone for an outfit."
3. Muffin Top: A phenomenon that occurs when women -- and sometimes men -- wear jeans that are too tight and probably too low. Kelly's advice? "If you want to avoid the muffin top, you have to keep the muffin in the pan!" When considering jeans, try picking ones that sit "about an inch below your navel." Or, invest in some type of shape wear.
4. Counterfeit Anything: I am pretty sure we have all been tempted to rock knock-off hand bags or shoes, but according to Kelly, it makes you seem ashamed for not being able to afford the real thing. "Just be the best, most authentic version of you!"
5. Pajamas In Public: This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Wearing pajamas in public is like wearing a "bikini to a PTA meeting." They are out of place, and it makes you look lazy. If you have errands to run, are going to class, going to a doctors appointment, etc. put on jeans, a casual top, and simple shoes. Please.
