Footloose: The Musical
1984's hit movie "Footloose" is going through the remake process. According to IGN.com, the movie will be a musical take on the original film, which starred Kevin Bacon and John Lithgow. Paramount Pictures is holding the reins on the remake, which will be a vehicle for the star of Disney's "High School Musical," Zac Efron, whose feature acting debut is in this weekend's "Hairspray." The 1984 version starred Bacon as the city boy who relocates to a straight-laced small town which has made dancing illegal. The soundtrack featured a passel of hit numbers, but in the movie, the songs were only in the background. The new version will feature the hit soundtrack, and possibly add as many as four more new songs. The plans to remake "Footloose" began in 2003, when it was agreed that Dean Pitchford, the original's writer, would write new material for the redo. But it's unsure whether this is still the plan, writes IGN.com. Efron will again be working with Kenny Ortega, who directed "High School Musical."
