Footloose! Or Not . . .

HSM star pulls out of popular '80s musical remake.

For those of you looking forward to seeing High School Musical's Zac Efron shimmy his way through a remake of Footloose, you might be disappointed. The actor has pulled out of the film, according to E! Online.

Efron supposed reasons behind dropping out are that he doesn't want to be typecast, as he has danced and sang his way through three High School Musicals, a Hairspray remake, not to mention his dance number in the Oscars.

"While Zac is no longer attached," said Paramount Pictures, "we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of Kenny Ortega [Footloose director], Neil Meron, and Craig Zadan, who will reinvigorate the franchise."

Efron, who has not officially given his reasons, had been slated to take over Kevin Bacon's role in the film.

The studio has not yet found a replacement for the young star, and Paramount is hopeful that its new adaptation of the popular '80s film will be released by 2010.
