Former Miss Argentina Dies

Opting for plastic surgery proved to be a deadly decision for Solange Magnano.

A former pageant contestant died after a low-risk plastic surgery operation.

Solange Magnano, a 38-year-old model and former Miss Argentina, died on Sunday after being brought from a surgery center to the hospital, reports MyGloss.com.

Magnano was undergoing a gluteoplasty, which is surgery on the buttocks, when she suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism. The New York Daily News spoke with Roberto Piazza, a close friend of Magnano, about the tragedy.

"A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind," Piazza said.

Dr. Gabriel Chiu, a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, provided a doctor's opinion of the fatal mistake for MyGloss.com

"In Ms. Magnano's case, an injected material—either fat or silicon—would have to enter a large vein in sufficient amounts to cause a pulmonary embolism," Dr. Chiu explained. "It is more likely that she developed a blood clot that traveled to cause her embolism.

Magnano was an adored star in Brazil and mother of 7-year-old twins.
