Former Sopranos Actor Gets 10-Year Sentence
Actor Lillo Brancato, Jr., who played wannabe mobster Matt Belivaqua on the HBO series, The Sopranos, was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison. The sentence was handed down by a N.Y. state judge for his part in a 2005 burglary attempt that resulted in the death of off-duty police officer Daniel Enchautegui. The slain officer, who lived in a neighboring apartment, was shot in the chest by Brancato's accomplice, Steven Armento. Armento was given a life sentence on a charge of first-degree murder. Brancato was acquitted in December of second-degree murder charges. He has served three years in prison awaiting his trial. That time will be credited toward his sentence. With good behavior, Brancato could be released as early as 2014. The sentence, which fell between the minimum of 3? years and maximum of 15, disappointed both sides. The trial drew attention from N.Y. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who criticized the jury's verdict.
