Fox to Offer Reality TV Channel Next Year

Will Fox succeed as "Reality TV Headquarters" with their new channel next year?

Every day it becomes more and more apparent that reality TV is here to stay. According to the Associated Press, Fox plans to start the Fox Reality Channel early next year and will introduce their channel by creating new reality shows and re-airing their audience-approved reality show gems, in an effort to remain at the top of the reality game.

Though Fox is not the first network to attempt to capitalize on the format, they are confident their channel will find a sizable audience and place within the genre. They will join the ranks of cable's Reality Central, which will begin later this year and Reality TV, which can only be watched on the Dish Network.

According to Anthony Vinciquerra, Fox Networks Group President, Fox is not trying to compete with cable networks, nor was there was ever any doubt about Fox creating a network entirely dedicated to reality TV. "It was only a matter of when," said Vinciquerra, responding to Reality Central's allegations that Fox had taken their idea.

Vinciquerra has stated that while Fox-related companies will be responsible for most of the new network's programming, not all shows that are run on the network will be Fox products. Although Fox has not yet released titles of the shows the network will air, it is evident that the Fox Reality Channel will concentrate on the competitive games and romantic reality shows. This means those fans of Joe Millionaire and Survivor may finally be able to watch their shows on the same network.Fox is clearly banking on premise that the genre is here to stay. "This is not just a passing fad for Fox," said Fox Networks spokesman Tom Tyre. "They've been doing this for a while."

Who knows, maybe some day reruns of The Bachelor will be on TV as often as The Simpsons.
