Fox Resurrects "'Til Death"
Fox has given 'Til Death, the comedy starring Brad Garrett and Joely Fisher, a 22-episode order for next season.
According to Variety.com, "Til Death' has been off the air since early October, and there was speculation that Fox might shelve the show's remaining third-season episodes. Instead, insiders said producer Sony Pictures TV gave the network a deal it couldn't refuse to bring the laffer for a fourth year."
This deal puts 'Til Death's episodic total to 80, just enough for an off-network syndication sale.
Only 7 episodes of 'Til Death have been aired by Fox, which means it still has 15 more episodes from season three to air. On top of that, Fox hasn't figured out when the remainder of this season's shows will air. This could cause a problem since Fox's schedule is already jam-packed with the return of 24, American Idol and new series such as Lie to Me and Dollhouse.
The Variety.com article then delves into the changes 'Til Death has undergone recently, "Til Death' underwent a creative shift this year, as the show moved its focus to the friendship between Garrett and new cast member JB Smoove. The show's next door neighbors, played by Eddie Kaye Thomas and Kat Foster, were dropped."
In terms of the show's ratings, 'Til Death averaged a 1.8 rating and 5 share among adults 18-49, as well as 4.7 million viewers, in the 9 p.m. slot, and a 1.4/4 (and 3.7 million viewers) in the 9:30 slot.
Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, Tim Hobert, Steve Skrovan, David Rosenthal and Garrett are all executive producers of 'Til Death.
