Fred Thompson Set to Return to Acting

Former Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is beginning the process of resuming his acting career. This comes after the former Senator signed a deal to be represented by the William Morris Agency, the talent group said Monday.

Thompson, 65, dropped his bid for the White House in January after a disappointing campaign where his support of Evangelicals and Southern Republicans was stolen, in large part, by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Huckabee, of course, dropped out of the race after Arizona Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, reached the needed number of delegates.

Thompson is best known on an acting front for playing New York District Attorney Arthur Branch on the long-running Law & Order, but has also been cast in many films and TV shows in the past.

Thompson's first movie role was in Marie. He has since appeared in a multitude of films, including Die Hard 2 and In the Line of Fire, frequently playing a politician or authority figure.

Thompson's acting career was interrupted when he won a seat in the Tennessee Senate in 2003.
