There is a new generation of vampires heading into the mainstream. Who else could be jumping on the vampire wagon? Everyone. The CW network has a new series, “The Vampire Diaries” premiering Thursday at 8pm. The shows plot is Stefan, played by Paul Wesley,is the good vampire who refuses to drink human blood. He is falling for high schooler Elena, Nina Dobrev. His brother Damon, Ian Somerhalder, is a vamp with a healthy apatite for human blood and women.Damon doesn’t agree with Stefan’s rejection of vampire nature but sees Stefan’s reason for falling for Elena. She looks exactly like a woman Stefan loved more than a century ago that Damon tried to win for himself. But can it compete with “True Blood,” which is drawing some of HBO’s largest audiences since “The Sopranos.”

In November the second film adaptation of the popular novels, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is set for release. The third installment of the Saga planned to follow in June 2010. And it doesn’t seem the studios think the epic love of vampires is ending until at least 2012. Tim Burton is planning to release a “Dark Shadows” movie starring Johnny Depp in 2011 and talk of a remake of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is aimed for 2012.

When will audiences tire of the vampire epidemic? Only time and the next movie project will tell.
