Fridays on Fox to gain two new pilots

Fox Friday nights will be attempting to make viewers both laugh and cry as the network plans to bring several comedies and dramas into their programming lineup.

Friday evenings on Fox will be home to two new pilots, a drama from Kyle Killen, who penned the 2010 Mel Gibson/Jodie Foster dramedy, “The Beaver,” and an untitled comedy from writer Adam Goldberg and director Seth Gordon.

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “The untitled Adam Goldberg single-camera comedy, from Sony Pictures TV and Adam Sandler's Happy Madison, revolves around twentysomething geniuses who crack computer security systems. . . . ‘Midland,’ from 20th TV, is a soap set against the backdrop of an oil business that centers on a polygamist living a double life.”

Goldberg, who also was the scribe behind several episodes of the CBS sitcom, “Still Standing,” penned the untitled comedy’s script with “Four Christmases” helmer Gordon directing the pilot. Both Goldberg and Gordon will be showrunners on the project.

Gordon’s previous directing credits include helming an episode of the NBC dramedy, “Parks and Recreation,” starring ex-“Saturday Night Live” cast member Amy Poehler and the NBC sitcom, “The Office.”

The HollywoodReporter.com article goes on to say, “The Adam Goldberg comedy and ‘Midland’ join Greg Garcia's recently completed comedy pilot ‘Keep Hope Alive,’ and Shawn Ryan's drama pilot ‘Ridealong.’ Meanwhile, the Ben Stiller-produced comedy pilot ‘The Station’ is undergoing reshoots.”

On top of all of this activity, earlier this week, Kevin Reilly, president of Fox Entertainment television, stated that his strategy is to accumulate as many as eight drama and ten comedy pilots this season.
