Could Reese Witherspoon and Kate Middleton be the best of friends? The star of This Means War sure hopes so! I don’t know if the two will be having sleepovers anytime soon but Witherspoon told Ellen DeGeneres that she would like to hang out with Middleton.
In an interview airing today on Ellen, America’s sweetheart had only nice things to say about the British Royal. Witherspoon was fortunate enough to meet the Duchess of Cambridge during the royal couple’s United States tour.
“Somebody called me and said, 'We're having a really small fundraiser would you want to come over and meet the prince and princess?'" the 35-year-old explained to DeGeneres. "I was like, 'Yes!' My husband just thought I was so dorky.”
Witherspoon continued to reminisce about the day she met Middleton and the panic that ensued while finding an appropriate outfit to wear.
“I must have tried on like six outfits. I’m meeting a princess. You don’t understand. You have to be wearing the right outfit and the whole thing,” she said.
Witherspoon’s husband, Jim Toth, got a kick out of watching his wife become star struck over the Duchess. According to the actress, he even has a name for her childish smile that appears when she is overwhelmed with excitement. Toth calls it the “double-barrel”.
DeGeneres cleverly had a photo handy of Witherspoon’s “double-barrel” while shaking hands with Middleton.
When asked about Kate’s personality, Witherspoon answered, “She was really nice. She was lovey. She’s so composed.”
DeGeneres asked the hard-hitting question of whether or not the Oscar winner thinks she will hang out with the Duchess.
“I mean, I would like to hang out. I’m not sure she wants to hang out with me. I could see that happening,” she joked.
Facing the camera, as a way to direct her statement to Middleton, Witherspoon said, “Call me. Call me anytime.”
Too bad the Duchess is wrapped up in her royal duties. I think the two would make great BFFs.
