Frozen Pizzas Recalled for Possible E. Coli Contamination

General Mills frozen pizza brands recalled for E. coli risk.

General Mills has voluntarily recalled over 400,000 cases of frozen pizza due to the possible risk of E coli O157 contamination.

According to the Medical News Today web site, "The pizzas were produced in General Mills Ohio factory and distributed throughout the USA."

In spite of the recall, 21 cases of E. coli related illnesses have already been reported in 10 states, such as New York, Virginia and Missouri.

The Post Online web site further elaborates on the specifics of the recall. "According to General Mills...[The recall] includes both Jeno's and Totino's brand frozen pizzas, although OU [Ohio University] only carries Jeno's. The affected Jeno's products are The Crisp 'n Tasty Supreme, Crisp 'n Tasty Pepperoni and Crisp 'n Tasty Combo. General Mills received the possibly contaminated pepperoni from an outside supplier."

The investigation is ongoing, and according to The Environmental News Service's web site, "Working in cooperation with federal and state food safety authorities, the company launched an investigation after learning of the potential problem."
