FX Purchases Rights To Twilight Franchise

The television network acquired the TV rights for Stephenie Meyer's Twilight.

FX acquired the television rights to the Twilight franchise, announced The Hollywood Reporter.

The television network acquired all four movies in a package deal along with "The Hurt Locker," "Knowing" and action film "Push."

The first movie will air on FX in 2011, followed by the saga "New Moon" in 2012. The third movie "Eclipse," which is set to release on June 30 will premiere on FX in 2013.

Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series movie saga broke expectations on opening weekend, gaining more than $140 million.

The rest of the movies purchased by the network will premiere for television audiences in 2012.

The license fee FX has to pay to Summit Entertainment depends on the boxoffice performance in North America. If the last two movies perform strongly in theaters, reaching at least the $200 million mark, the network could pay up to $100 million for the series.

The purchase adds the Twilight series to the extensive list of FX films which include; "2012," "Star Trek," all of "Ice Age" movies, and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," among others.
