FX renews "Rescue Me"
Denis Leary's firefighting drama has been renewed for a sixth season by FX. According to an article on Variety.com, "The cable net ordered 18 additional episodes of the series, which kicks off its fifth campaign April 7 at 10 p.m."Leary, Peter Tolan and Jim Serpico are returning as the show's executive producers, although an official production start date for the sixth season's episodes has yet to be announced.
Amidst the excitement of coming back for a sixth season, FX president John Landgraf gives the show high hopes for its future, "I believe this show will continue to maintain a level of excellence for several years to come."In addition, Leary is expanding the reach of Rescue Me. According to HollywoodReporter.com, "Leary is launching 'The Rescue Me Comedy Tour,' an 11-city tour featuring the actor, fellow comedians and 'Rescue Me' co-stars Adam Ferrara and Lenny Clarke. The tour includes a stop at Radio City Music Hall on April 2, a performance that will benefit the Leary Firefighters Foundation."
The Variety.com article also divulges a bit of background information on the series as well as its ratings bonanza among a particular group of viewers, "'Rescue Me,' which comes from Sony Pictures TV, DreamWorks TV and Leary's Apostle shingle, was one of FX's top-rated series when season four culminated in September 2007: The show averaged a cumed audience of 3.2 million adults 18-49 and 4.8 million total viewers with its four weekly runs combined."
Plus, FX officials did cite that due to the WGA strike, episodes for season five were delayed. To rectify this, the season's 22 episodes will air over a 23 week period, culminating with the season finale on Sept. 8.
