FX wins 'Sons of Anarchy' lawsuit

The cable network FX has won a lawsuit regarding its series Sons of Anarchy.

The network was sued for $5 million in 2010 by Chuck Zito. He claimed that he developed a show called Nomads and set up a meeting with FX executive John Landgraf. Zito said that he discussed his ideas for a show focusing on a motorcycle club at this meeting.

FX passed on the idea but they developed Sons, created by Kurt Sutter. The show, which recently completed its fourth season, became a big hit for the network.

"FX was obligated to pay Zito the reasonable value of his ideas, hire him to work on the series and afford him screen credit as creator," the lawsuit alleged. "Defendants breached an implied-in-fact contract with defendant."

Zito vented his frustration on Twitter at the time.

However, a judge in Los Angeles ruled Thursday that Zito has no case. Sons of Anarchy, the judge ruled, was pitched to other networks before being picked up by FX.

Sutter recently revealed his hopes that Sons of Anarchy will have seven seasons.

The show focuses on a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club from the fictional Northern California town of Charming. Its fifth season is set to begin in 2012.
