Gang Starr member in Coma

Rap duo Gang Starr has suffered a major shock over the past weekend. MC Guru suffered a heart attack Sunday which resulted in him going into a coma.

While details are unavailable at the moment, it has been reported that the rapper is in a New York hospital. His partner DJ Premier has also confirmed that Guru will be undergoing surgery soon.

DJ Premier was originally scheduled to appear late Sunday on Sirius XM’s Hip-Hop satellite radio station to speak about his partner’s condition. Instead he never called in and according to the producer’s blog he was simply overwhelmed by the sensitivity of the situation. It was also stated that Guru was “fighting for his life” in the same post.

Before this incident, the pair was on hiatus after their 2003 album The Ownerz. The two were giving out conflicting messages about what their future would be. Guru however had recently hinted on Twitter that the two of them were going to release some new Gang Starr material soon.

We can only hope and pray for MC Guru’s recovery.
