Gay Marriage Causes "Star Trek" Rift (What?)
William Shatner may be a lot of things: spokesperson, actor, rapper and walking caricature of himself, but he's also quite sensitive.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Shatner was not invited to his former co-star's wedding between George Takei and his long time partner last month. Other Star Trek alumni played vital roles in the wedding, including Walter Koenig (Chekov) as best man and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) as matron of honor. Leonard Nimoy also got an invite.
Recently, the former fictional Captain blasted back on a YouTube interview, making it perfectly clear his opinion on the whole matter. He says he doesn't know what problem Takei has with him and his comments and hostility toward Shatner are completely misplaced. Takei claims one of his issues was that Shatner was egotistical and pressured directors for unnecessary close-ups of Kirk whenever possible.
Shatner says it has nothing to do with the fact that Takei is gay, in fact, on the matter he openly comes out and says, "who cares." The Boston Legal star claims his relationship with Takei over the years has been minimal, at best, and doesn't understand George's reasoning behind his antagonistic behavior.
Shatner goes on to say he "pities" Takei, due to this longstanding rivalry which Shatner still denies taking any part in.
Oh William Shatner, is there anything you can't make interesting?
