German Grammys Are Up for Grabs!
It's award season all over the world: The Echo Awards, the German equivalent of the Grammys, are being handed out tonight, Saturday, in Berlin. The guest list is what you would call star-studded, according to Yahoo Germany. Lionel Richie, who will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, will perform along with a surprise guest.
Other live performers at the show include Katy "I Kissed a Girl" Perry, Amy McDonald, who is nominated as Best International Female Artist and U2, who will present their new song, "Get On Your Boots."
German award hopefuls, Die Toten Hosen, Ich + Ich and Peter Fox, will attend. The cult band, the Scorpions, who provided the soundtrack to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 with "Wind of Change," will receive an Echo Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Echo Awards are being held for the 18th time tonight; awards in 15 different categories are up for grabs. These include Best National Artist, Best International Artist, Best Album and Best Newcomer. The awards want to honor "great creative achievements" and artists who "reach their audience and move them," according to echopop.de.
