G.I. Joe Takes Overseas Box Office By Storm
After raking in $44.1 million from 5,750 screens in 35 territories, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" landed in the No. 1 spot at the foreign box office, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Paramount's film inspired by the Hasbro action figure toy line reportedly averaged $7,670 per screen to capture first place in at least 13 territories.
Director Steven Sommers's "Cobra," starring Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Marlon Wayans, and Dennis Quaid, proved to be quite the hit in Korea, where the film collected $5.6 million from 438 sites.
Similarly, "Cobra" earned $4.8 million from 900 China locations, along with $4.6 million from 537 sites in Russia, finishing in first place in both countries.
The action adventure grossed an additional several million dollars each from Japan, France, and the U.K.
Adding its $56.2 million debut to its overseas income, "Cobra's" worldwide total has already shattered the $100 million mark.
According to THR, the film is still scheduled to debut in about 28 more foreign territories, including Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia.
