GLAAD Favors ABC in Award Nominations

Despite the off-screen controversies of "Grey's Anatomy," ABC scores the most nods among the major networks.

Although the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation may have some stern words for Grey's Anatomy star, Isaiah Washington, the organization is still giving ABC some positive recognition.

ABC earned eight nominations for the 18th annual GLAAD Media Awards, outshining competition from CBS, which had five nominations, and NBC with three nods.

The announcement comes a week after GLAAD sought discussion with Washington, who reportedly used an anti-gay slur against co-star T.R. Knight during an on-set argument with fellow actor Patrick Dempsey. Washington publicly denied his use of the slur backstage at last week's Golden Globes ceremony, but later apologized.

The GLAAD Awards will be held in four separate ceremonies in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco throughout the spring. The awards are meant to "recognize and honor mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender...community and the issues that affect their lives."
