'Glee' Recap: Silly Love Songs

Stephanie DeLuca

Glee heated things up for Valentine’s Day with an episode filled with love and drama. Puck has a new love in his life, Lauren, who is not the typical “popular” or “beautiful” girl Puck usually goes for. However, somehow he’s attracted to her glasses and standoffish attitude. Puck tried to serenade the girl but only manages to insult her since his song choice was about her size (and how he loves big women). Even though Lauren gave Puck the cold shoulder, he still ends up trying to get her to go out to Breadstix by going to the library, a place where he’s never been before, and proposing a date with a ring pop. She ends up standing him up but agrees to go out Valentine’s Day, only as friends.

Meanwhile, Finn thinks he’s still the big man on campus after winning the Championship football game for McKinley High. To prove to the Glee club that he is still a stud and everyone wants him, Finn makes a proposition to raise money for the club by having a kissing booth.

This week’s assignment, it comes as no surprise, all members must sing a love song. At rehearsal Santana gets a dose of her own medicine when all the Glee club members verbally attack her all at once. She ends up leaving and crying outside the room. It just goes to show she can dish it out but can’t take it.

Kurt is still in love with Blaine and Blaine is too naïve to even see it. He’s too wrapped up in another boy he loves, Jeremiah. Blaine decided he wanted to do something over-the-top to show Jeremiah how much he cares about him. Therefore, Blaine had a brilliant idea to go to the Gap, where Jeremiah’s an Assistant Manager, and sing to him along with the other Glee club members. Kurt wasn’t too thrilled about the idea but managed to go along for the ride. In the end, Jeremiah got fired from his job and didn’t want anything to do with Blaine since he’s not “out of the closet” just yet and he’s too young.

Rachel still wants Finn to be back in her life. After getting a kiss on the cheek at Finn’s kissing booth, she gets deeply offended. However, it wasn’t a complete waste since Finn gave her a late Christmas present of a necklace with a star charm on it. Why would he play with her emotions like that? Doesn’t he know this would only give her false hope?

Finn does have his eye on one lucky lady, Quinn. Her boyfriend Sam saw the two getting too close for comfort and he confronts her on why she won’t kiss Finn. To appease Sam, Quinn kisses Finn at the kissing booth where they both saw fireworks. Even though Quinn is trying her best to stay faithful to Sam, she still needs to find out who she wants more.

Santana finds herself in the majority of tonight’s drama. First, she gets into a fight with Lauren in the hallway over Puck -- and loses. Then, after seeing Quinn and Finn together in Glee club she has come to the conclusion on her own that Quinn is having an affair. In order for the two to get caught, Santana ends up going to hospital to kiss a boy with mono and passed it along to Finn at his kissing booth. Finn ends up kissing Quinn again in the auditorium, just to see if sparks will fly again (and they did), but come the next day the two both have mono. Ironic enough, Santana doesn’t have the kissing disease but Finn and Quinn do.

After failing to impress Blaine’s love interest, he ends up feeling bitter about Valentine’s Day. Kurt made sure Blaine wasn’t lonely for long as he confronted Blaine about his feelings for him.

In the end, Kurt hosts a “Lonely Hearts” dinner at Breadstix where all the lovers and non-lovers admired him and his Glee club sing The Warblers' "Silly Little Love Songs".
