'Godfather of Gospel's' Son Takes Over

The late Rev. Timothy Wright's son was chosen by members to head his father's church, Sunday.

The "Godfather of Gospel's" son took over his late father's congregation Sunday as the pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ, in Brooklyn, N.Y., according to Newsday.com.

David Wright, 30, was formerly the minister of music at the church, according to WPIX.com.

According to the Christian Post, the Rev. Timothy Wright passed away in April at age 61 after being paralyzed from the waste down due to a car crash in July 2008. According to Newsday.com, his wife, Betty, co-pastor of the church, died along with their 14-year-old grandson, D.J., in the crash. The family was returning from the Church of God in Christ conference in Detroit when a drunk driver struck them, according to the Christian Post.

The late Wright founded the church with his wife 20 years ago.

During his career, the internationally known singer received two Grammy nominations. He recorded 12 albums, the most recent being 2007's "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus."
