The Good Wife Season 1 Episode 9 Recap

This episode starts off with Alicia's son watching "Chelsea Lately" online. It is Chelsea Handler playing herself talking to their father's hooker, who is writing a tell all book. Alicia is unaware of the interview and is trying to get her children to eat more fruit with breakfast. The children don't tell her and she shoves off the work

At work the assistant lets her in on the interview and Alicia sits through the interview with the hooker who calls her "frigid" and unadventurous in the bedroom. She is called to Diane and Will's office where she walks into a discussion of "damage control." Although it is not Alicia the two are talking about but the founding partner Jonas Stern. Stern was hit with a DUI with no injurers'. Now he is coming into the office and one of the things on his to do list is meeting Alicia. She was the one who did a wonderful job on his daughter's slip and fall case a few episodes ago.

The sight of Stern is funny at first. He is a short man with a scruffy beard wearing jeans and a purple dress shirt. He travels through the law firm collecting hugs from the staff and removing art from the walls. Stein walks into the room and he wants Alicia "as a front. I'll defend myself through her."

At home, Alicia tells the kids the hooker's stories aren't true. At work, Alicia is finding it hard to work for Stein. He withholds information and changes his pants in front of her. In court, the arresting officer now claims aggravated battery of a police officer, which turns the charge into a felony. Stein also suspects Diane and Will are out to get him.

Back at home, Zach has a pretty girl in his room. She is a junior and is helping him "study." Really she tries to seduce him but Grandma returns home and Zach jumps at the chance to help.

The hooker is now calling Alicia at work and Alicia is struggling to defend Stein. Stein keeps interrupting. Alicia next she goes to see Peter in his briefing room. She first talks to Kya, the advisor trying to fine out who pays Kya. "A committee of interested advisors." Kya answers with plans to put him back in office. When Peter shows up Alicia losses her "frigid" nature and starts crying. She tells Peter the hooker is calling her work and no matter right or wrong, she wants it to stop and expects him to "Make her stop."

Grandma is in Zach's room going through his things and comes across the hidden photos of Peter with a different hooker. Aghast by the photos she tosses them down the incinerator.

In court, Alicia takes control and has a video of Stern excluded. At home Alicia moves Zach's computer into the living room for no more boy/girl study dates. Zach is thinking Alicia is not trusting him because of what Peter has done raises issues of trust.

In Stein's office, Stein learns Will has been in his case files. He storms into a meeting between Diane and Will and confronts them. He threatens bankrupting the firm if the try to get rid of him.

Peter calls the hooker into a meeting. Peter's lawyer threatens her with leaking information on an old client who is now under investigation by the FBI. The hooker cries, "you wouldn't" which Peter replies "To protect my family, you have no idea what I'm capable of."

Kalinda discovers Stein is taking medication for dementia. When Alicia confronts Stein he orders her to keep his condition a secret. Kalinda studies the police tape and discovers there was no preliminary Breathalyzer test. Once brought to the attention of the court the case Stein is only charged with a misdemeanor assault, time served.

Alicia threatens Stein to come clean about his condition. Instead he tells Diane he quitting this firm, starting a new one and taking his clients with him. Stein offers Alicia a job, which she declines. Stein even tells Alicia her husband was set up. Alicia wants more information but Stein tells her that's all he know and "I'm not your deep throat on this. Your husband was set up and they're not going to let him out of prison, ever."

The hooker meets Alicia in the parking lot. The hooker tells her how Peter threatened her life and she should be careful around her husband because she doesn't know what he is capable of doing. The hooker ends her nice conversation with angry tears telling Alicia to "Go to Hell! You two deserve each other!"

Alicia goes to see Peter and kisses him. They quickly part and Peter is left staggered. I think it has left everyone in the audience astonished.
