Grammy Museum to Open with Fanfare

The Grammy Museum's opening ceremonies will feature massive stars and nominees for the 2009 awards.

One of music's biggest nights are the Grammy awards, and while the 2009 ceremony isn't until February 8, 2009 (at the Staples Center in Los Angeles), the fanfare has already begun.

On Wednesday, December 3, at the Nokia Theatre, at least six categories of nominees will be announced. This marks the first time Grammy nominees are being announced on prime-time television. After the ceremony, John Mayer will perform a one hour show, and then the Grammy museum will officially open.

The event will mark the official countdown to the Grammys, a season that spans longer than Christmas sales. Grammy winners Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, B. B. King, Foo Fighters, and Taylor Swift will perform at the event.

According to their official site, the Grammy Museum "will explore and celebrate the creative process, the art and technology of the recording process, and the enduring legacy of all forms of recorded music." The museum will include four floors of interactive exhibits, and be an adventure into the history of music.

The event will be televised on CBS on December 3, 2008.
