Grammys to Honor the Grateful Dead

The Academy will recognize several artists with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Rock band the Grateful Dead is among the artists being honored with the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Grammy Awards ceremony, joining several others that, until now, have not received a Grammy throughout their illustrious careers.

"This year's group of accomplished honorees are as diverse as they are influential as creators of the most renowned and prominent recordings in the world," said Academy President Neil Portnow. "Their contributions exemplify the highest artistic and technical standards that have positively affected the music industry and music fans."

The Doors, jazz artist Ornette Coleman, soul band Booker T. and the MG's, country singer Bob Willis, folk artist Joan Baez and opera diva Maria Callas are also being given the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The awards will be given out at a separate ceremony during the week of the Grammys. The main ceremony will air live Feb. 11 from Los Angeles.
