Grandmother from 'Happy Gilmore' dies

Frances Bay, who played Adam Sandler's elderly grandmother in Happy Gilmore, died Thursday at 92.

Bay, according to L.A. Times, started her acting career in the 1970s after spending years as a housewife. In her first movie role, Bay was featured in the film, Foul Play, starring Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn. She went on to play in more than 50 movies and land roles in nearly 100 television shows.

In addition to her role in the Happy Gilmore film, Bay, according to MSNBC, is most recognizable from her role on Happy Days as Fonzie’s grandmother and a small role on the sitcom, Seinfeld, from the “The Rye” episode in which she played the older women who has a loaf of rye bread stolen from her.

Bay, whose husband died in 2002, has no immediate surviving relatives, the L.A. Times reports.
