Green Lantern Costume Controversy
San Diego’s Comic-Con convention proved to be very successful. A number of upcoming films showed exclusive sneak peeks and offered panel discussions that allowed fans a chance to interact with some of their favorite stars.
During the Warner Bros. panel this past Saturday, fans got the first peek of footage from The Green Lantern. The only thing missing was the title character’s suit. The suit wasn’t a total surprise. The suit change had already been viewed during Comic-Con sneak preview. Fans are already tense about the idea.
Ryan Reynolds plays the dual role of Hal Jordan and his film’s title character, the Green Lantern. Reynolds spoke with MTV News to weigh in on the controversy. He is glad not everyone is satisfied. "There has to be a little healthy debate about it. That's important," he said. "If it were just slanted one way or the other, I don't think it would be that satisfying."
The new Green Lantern costume was created solely using CGI. It has lines along it to recreate the appearance of bulging muscles. The new costume, however, does lack the white gloves that were a part of the Green Lantern’s outfit in the comics and cartoons.
Reynolds was a fan of getting rid of the gloves though. "The white gloves aren't there, and I think that's fine because, specifically, they're lame," he said. "But everything else is going to be there. I think the fanboys and the people that are new to the character are going to love it."
