Grey's Anatomy 5-6 Life During Wartime

Bailey gets more power in the hospital as she deals with an inoperable tumor.

Storyline A:

Meredith and Derek try to move boxes to the attic. She discusses her doll she had as a kid. It's an "Anatomy Jane."

The Chief pages Bailey to the roof and tells her that he's giving her more power. He wants her to "be me." A helicopter comes in. There is a 10-year-old girl who needs help. She has an inoperable tumor.

Bailey talks to the residents and after seeing the Anatomy Jane doll she picks Meredith for surgery. Meredith explains the 10-year-old's situation to the interns. She pulls out Anatomy Jane and explains the surgery to the girl. Her family pressures the Chief that they could leave and they picked the hospital because they had the best surgeons.

Meredith and Bailey are interrupted by an aunt and uncle who want to watch. Miranda lets them stay in another room. They place dye into the girl's body and worry.

Erica is paged to Bailey and Erica doesn't want to do the surgery because she thinks it's a lost cause. In a conference, Erica doesn't like the ideas that are being passed around. The family behind the windows are all nervous. The Chief gets paged to the ER and Derek complains about Owen's leadership. He storms back angrily at Derek (and Meredith's doll). After a little bit of doll time, she suggests taking out each organ one at a time. The Chief thinks about it and makes a plan. The doctors explain to the girl's family about the whole organ idea. The family is nervous and unsure. The Chief tells them that it's their only shot for the daughter to live.

Meredith asks the chief about the kidneys. After the response, Meredith questions why the Chief wasn't looking at her. He gets angry at her. At the surgery of the girl, the four try their best. The important part of the surgery was when they removed organ after organ.

The Chief goes to talk to the family after Bailey uses the new power from him. The girl's father is upset that he's not being updated and the Chief gets quite angry at him. The father wants information and he does his best. This affects the Chief as he goes back.

There is a problem with the organs being connected to the vessels. They can't get organs for transplants and they can't connect the organs back. As she crashes, Erica doesn't want to do this surgery. The Chief calms the group down and Bailey suggests umbilical parts. After Erica and Bailey okay it, the Chief says to do it.

Bailey tries her best to get the fusion to work. It's a success. The Chief thanks his team, Bailey laughs at Erica for accepting the praise. Bailey calls her a pain in the ass; she wanted encouragement or some agreement. She walks away.

Meredith talks to the Chief. The Chief gives her a story about the Anatomy Jane reminding him of Meredith running around the hospital.

The Chief watches Bailey get hugged by the family.

Derek and Meredith continue with the boxes, Derek finds a box of journals.

Storyline B:

Callie and Erica talk about how good the night before was; she gives a story about how the glasses as a child made her see. Callie is a little uncomfortable and walks out.

Callie and Mark have some more sex. Her theory (about how good sex with men vs women are) saddens her and she angrily walks away.

Callie and Mark talk more about the sex. Erica cried about how good it was. Callie was worried about how "awesome" sex was. She sees no real difference between the two. Mark calls her a cheater.

Callie tells Erica that she slept with Mark. She explains that the crying this morning got her to admit to sleeping with Mark. Callie wanted to be truthful and Erica only responds with an "okay."

Mark talks to Callie; before he leaves she offers to get a drink; as friends.

Yang gets pointed out over to George's quick work and she is reprimanded for being slow, though thorough.

Izzie complains to Derek about how the pigs shouldn't be there. Derek doesn't agree with Izzie and reminds her that she has to play by the rules.

Lexie comforts her pig. After a page, Christina is stuck taking care of all the pigs. All the rest take care of a trauma.

Derek and Mark get rejected by Owen's new leadership.

Alex is quizzed by Owen and it's okay. Owen is okay with Izzie, but she is angry at him.

Derek & Mark scream at Alex for sealing the man's head with skin glue and to fix the problems.

Owen asks Izzie about a tool, and then Izzie gets quizzed. She responds back about the difference with animals and humans and walks out.

Lexie's pig crashes more and Christina has to open the pig further.

Owen and Izzie complain more about the idea of torture. She talks about how animals are sensitive and emotional. She walks away upset.

The pig apparently got stabbed in the spleen and Christina has to deal with it. It's a success.

Owen gets confronted by Derek and Mark. Owen decides that he should learn about the right techniques and reminds us that it's day one for himself.

Christina gives the run-through of all the pigs (with names) and Owen okays it. He then wants her to kill all the pigs. She walks away upset. Owen talks about recovery and how much pain the pigs would be in. He continues talking about his days in the army and how 19 people died around him.

Christina can't kill the pigs even though she knows that they will suffer. After encouragement from Lexie she does.

Storyline D:

Alex and Izzie argue about relationships. Izzie is angry at Alex for considering moving on.

George is still being rejected by Lexie.

Lexie confronts George over some food. She gets emotional and explains that to George.

After the whole day passes, Alex enters Izzie's room and tells her how he's inexperienced with dating. Izzie realized that he didn't want to see other people. They make up and Izzie teaches him about correct dating etiquette. Including using the term "going steady."
