Grey's Anatomy: Wish You Were Here - TV Recap

Cristina and Meredith aren't talking. Can they work together on a prison inmate?

Meredith talks a little about wishes in the beginning. We get some introduction shots. Cristina is by herself and is trying to get some air from a grate. Meredith and Derek are awakened by their alarm clock and neither want to get out of bed. They get a quickie before the day begins. It quickly segues into Cristina and Meredith walking into work. Neither talk to each other. George wishes Izzie a happy birthday, while Alex nudges her. Bailey gives assignments. Cristina and Meredith are placed in the trauma bay. There is a prison inmate who has a lot of specifications. He's not allowed with sharp objects and needs to be handcuffed down. The Chief makes sure that things will be kept under wraps. The inmate turns out to be a death row inmate. He gets carted in.

The inmate feels like he has a lot of stab wounds. He feels leg pain, but they don't see anything. Mark talks to Lexie for a little bit. George checks in one girl and it turns out that she broke her hip. She's had a series of body bone-breaks in the year.

Bailey has a special young patient this episode. Jackson has bowel problems and Bailey makes sure that it's necessary that they take good care of the kid. Bailey has been on this case for three years. He wants a lollipop, but the doctor in charge out of nowhere dies.

Bailey talks to the Chief and it turns out that he had a coronary and died. She warns him that his wife will be coming. The Chief is vacant and walks away.

Izzie talks to Denny about Alex. Izzie is happy being around Alex and doesn't understand why Denny has a problem with that. Denny thinks that Izzie will come off as crazy. Izzie just wants to be truthful.

Alex takes care of Jackson. The kid wants Alex's signature for one of those save a child moments. Alex refutes saying that Jackson isn't a dying patient.

Callie and Mark discuss the broken hipped woman; Lexie overhears this and wants in. Although Mark is hesitant, he allows her. Callie realizes that Mark slept with her. Callie reminds her that she's a professional. Sadie comes in and takes a piece of lint out of Callie's hair. She's enamored and stutters through her next few sentences. Mark talked about professionalism and they joke how the interns are sex-crazed.

Dr. Arizona Robbins is introduced to Bailey and the audience. She comes off a little edgy because of the severity of the case and how Arizona wants to take over. Arizona thinks that Jackson should be exploring other options instead of trying to save Jackson's bowels.

The prisoner is still feeling pain even though there are no real marks and morphine is being pumped into his body. Meredith wants to wait until the X-rays come to show exactly what is wrong. Cristina and Derek refute. The X-rays come up and it turns out that there are stabs in his spine. The prisoner asks to stay handicapped, but Derek refuses.

A "Do Not Disturb" sign emerges in a door and Bailey is rejected by the door. The Chief is inside by himself.

Cristina, Derek, Meredith, and Owen all discuss the prisoner. Although Meredith wants one scan, Cristina wants an MRI. Derek is pro-choice, while Owen wants to make sure that all tests are analyzed. Meredith wants to make sure that the prisoner is okay. Derek is unsure of giving extra morphine to the prisoner.

Alex and Izzie talk about a case and they walk past Denny. She realizes that she has to tell Alex the truth. She admits to seeing Denny everywhere. Alex thinks she's crazy, but accepts it after a silly grandmother story that Izzie provides.

The prisoner and Meredith talk a little. Cristina is called a bitch by the prisoner. She explains that the two fought. She asks what was impaled into him. He mentions a sharpened toothbrush or possibly a knife.

Jackson stops Izzie and asks her about the wish he wants. She suggests China and rodeos, except that rodeos smell like poo. Alex comes in and stops it. Izzie walks out and Denny tries talking to her a little more.

The girl with many accidents has another problem. She has a tumor that is causing the accidents. The tumor is stealing calcium and making her bones brittle. She continuously screams "come on." She's upset that it's just a benign tumor. She lost a good boyfriend because of that. He moved to Denver without her. Lexie walks in with some more information for Mark and it makes him feel uncomfortable.

Arizona doesn't want to save the kid's organs. Apparently the kid is miraculously living. This upset Bailey.

The Chief is lying on a cot. He doesn't want to be disturbed, but Bailey comes in. Her emotions kick in as the work she has been doing for Jackson (three years) is quickly being negated by Arizona. Instead of trying to save him, she wants to get a transplant. The Chief asks Bailey what her problem is with attendees and if there was one that she actually liked. Bailey is a fan of the Chief. The Chief points out that she was one of the best and that Bailey had to deal with it. Bailey is at a loss for words and walks away.

Cristina is bored and sharpens a pencil at one of the desks. Owen comes in with some coffee and offers to be a friend. She accepts it. Derek comes in with the MRI and he has some head problems as well. Meredith wants more morphine, but Derek doesn't want to give more. Meredith asks what's wrong. Derek is upset that the prisoner is on the same side.

Mark and Callie talk about Lexie. They quickly segue to Sadie. Instead, they decide to think of something else, they try to kiss, but it doesn't work. Callie decides to create a 12-step program. It's more of a one-step, but either way, Callie wants the two of them to support themselves.

George, Cristina, and Alex are at the cafeteria. George mentions that it is Izzie's birthday and Cristina wittily mentions streamers and balloons. George thinks that Alex should do something. Alex says he has it under control. Izzie arrives at the table and Alex asks if Denny is around. He's not. Alex mentions that he's willing to share his girl but not his sandwich. Meredith shows up and Cristina gives her the silent treatment. George gets up and leaves. They talk about the death row inmate and talk about "crimes of passion." Cristina gets up and leaves. Sadie fills the space and wonders if the fight is still on and it is. Cristina bumps into Owen and exclaims that she wants to kill someone. He mentions that he's working and shrugs her off.

The prisoner thanks Meredith for adding a little more morphine. Cristina asks why he got into Death Row. The killer slit a woman's throat after a long bout of dreams and desires of doing it. He was actually amused by the killing so he continued to slit throats the following week until he got caught. Cristina and Meredith are stunned while he asks for Jell-O.

Derek storms into the Chief's "Do Not Disturb" space. He decides to talk to the Chief about the dead doctor. The Chief realizes that the man was a great doctor but a horrible colleague. Derek wants to know exactly why the Chief is by himself. The Chief is worried about the hospital dying. No doctors want to replace the dead guy, people got up and quit, the interns cut each other, and there are floods. He's even more worried that the hospital dropped to 12. He decides to lay there until he can figure something out. Derek mentions stitching a serial killer and he just doesn't have the energy to cheer the Chief up.

Mark and Callie are still continuing their steps for prevention. The steps are worrying the two but they break and try.

Derek and Owen still see that the two are fighting and worry about how exactly the surgery will play out.

Alex and Izzie talk more about Denny. She still sees Denny. She still does Denny. Alex shrugs it off. Alex kisses Izzie in front of Denny in several places and Denny leaves.

During the prisoner's surgery, Derek removes the sharp object. Cristina mentions the extra morphine and Derek is a little upset. Owen suggests a technique that Cristina has only practiced on cadavers, but Meredith knows from instinct. The two argue a little. After awkward silence, Owen tries to bring up a sporting game.

Izzie and Denny talk about how jealous Denny is. Izzie can't choose. She mentions that it's her birthday and she wanted to know if she is getting a present and he mentions that she just did (Alex and the kissing).

Bailey talks to Arizona because Jackson should be placed on the transplant list for an intestine and liver. Bailey wants a second opinion and Arizona quickly scribbles a number of another children's doctor that would totally agree with her. Arizona is upset that Bailey is snapping at her. Arizona wants to take quick actions or else the kid dies.

Cristina and Meredith wash up in silence. Cristina walks to the elevator and Owen finds her. He asks her if she wants a drink. Cristina quickly snaps about how she's the lonely, sad girl and Owen only gets friendly at opportune moments. She doesn't want to deal with the "Hot and Cold" treatment and takes the elevator up by herself.

Sadie talks to Meredith about the patient. She asks Meredith if she wants a drink and she isn't in the mood. Sadie points out that the two had a fight back in the day. She points out that she's doing the same to Cristina. Sadie wants to make sure that it never happens again. She just wants friendship but, Sadie knows that it will never be the same.

Bailey informs Jackson about the transplants and how Arizona is a great doctor, but she cracks a little. She starts to get weepy and decides to take Jackson's mother out to sign paperwork. Alex decides that it's okay to sign the "wish" form and places stars and X's of what he'd suggest.

Margaret's tumor removal was a success. She wants to go to Denver and find that boy she lost.

The Bar. Mark and Callie feel okay for going straight for a day. They stare at Joe, but Mark cracks. He decides to "go to Denver" as well. He leaves with Lexie. Callie starts to crack and takes a shot.

Bailey talks to the Chief and thinks that Arizona is okay. She's upset about Jackson and the Chief gets up and comforts her. He rips off the "Do Not Disturb" sign. They study the charts.

Derek comes home to Meredith on the couch and he tells her about how two men shot Derek's father for a watch. That's the reason that he treats everyone not so equally. Derek wants to make sure that Cristina and her get mended. She mentions how they put the music up and they dance away. Derek gets up, plays music and gets comfortable. He gets Meredith to join in.

Izzie is surprised by a self-made cake by Alex. He lights a candle and asks her to makes a wish. She doesn't have one. Alex suggests that she wish that nothing changes. She blows out the candle.

Next Week: Derek's Mother. Jackson's intestines and the prisoner's intestines? We'll find out in a week.
