Guillermo del Toro Talks "The Hobbit"

The director is hard at work on the return of the "Lord of the Rings" movie franchise.

According to MTV.com, Guillermo del Toro hopes to collaborate once again with Mike Mignola, this time for the two upcoming features in the works for The Hobbit. Guillermo del Toro previously worked with Mignola on Hellboy and Hellboy II. The Hellboy movies were based on the Darkhorse published comics of the same name created by Mignola.

According to del Toro, Mignola will be assisting with the visualization of The Hobbit which will serve as two prequel movies to The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Guillermo del Toro says, "We are sketching and designing with Weta's John Howe, and [Adam Lee] . . . Mike Mignola is coming soon. He's going to do a stint on the design team."

Mignola is no stranger to doing design and art visualization work on movies. Besides the Hellboy films, Mignola also worked on Pan's Labyrinth and Disney's Atlantis.

The Hobbit was originally conceived as a novel by J. R. R. Tolkien and was the author's pre-cursor to his world-renowned trilogy of books to The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit depicts the tale of Bilbo Baggins, uncle of Frodo Baggins, and his discovery of the One Ring, and adventures with Gandalf the Grey.
