Guitar Hero 5 Angers Band and Widow
Nirvana members along with Courtney Love are upset about the use of the late Kurt Cobain in "Guitar Hero 5." The late front runner of Nirvana is featured as an avatar in the new "Guitar Hero" game. Members of the band are disappointed with the Cobain avatar being used to play songs other than the two Nirvana songs placed in the game.
Activision, who develops the game, released this statement on Thursday, "Guitar Hero secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain's likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero® 5."
Love, Cobain's widow, has unleashed her rage on Twitter about the incident saying, "not in twenty JILLION years would i EVER have allowed this and this islethal."
"Guitar Hero" has used other likenesses of real-life rockers such as Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Barker. The franchise game is distributed to various game consoles like PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360.
