Guy Ritchie and John Hodge Helming King Arthur Saga

A leathal combination

Guy Ritchie, famous for the action comedies such as Snatch, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and more recently Sherlock Holmes, is teaming up with Trainspotting scriptwriter John Hodge for a new King Arthur project.

According to Variety, the two are working on the script together, and the project is moving toward a re-imagining of the legend. The King Arthur story tells of a legendary king who, in the late 5th early 6th century, defended England from Saxon invaders.

While many scholars argue that there is very little historical basis for the Arthurian legend, the pair will use Thomas Mallory's Le Morte d'Arthur as source material. Le Morte d'Arthur was a compilation of French and English stories that Mallory amalgamated into a complete story with his own personal twist. The story tells the life and death of the legend, beginning with his birth by his father's rape of Igraine and ending with his tragic demise by way of patricide.

Hollywood Gang and Atlas Entertainment are producing the film. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce for Atlas, while Gianni Nunnari will oversee for Gang. Roven is also developing a Gilligan's Island feature for Warner Brothers, while Nunnari's a producer on War of Gods. Hodge's past writing credits include the movie The Seeker as well as A Life Less Ordinary.
