Hackers Work Double Time to Rollback iPhones

Hackers are working on a way to "roll back" their "unlocked" Phones.

The iPhone is probably the most sought after accessory at the moment. The device that blends iPod, phone and internet is under scrutiny right now by people who own hacked phones. Many hackers developed software to "unlock" the phones to work with other wireless carriers (Apple has a deal with AT&T only). However, Apple issued a warning last week letting the owners of the hacked iPhones know that when a routine Apple-provided update was download to the device the doctored phones would be rendered useless.

According to PC World, some hackers posted a way to "rollback" the firmware, which would ideally restore the phone to working order. However, as of now, the methods posted on iPhone Dev Wiki, a site designed to help hack iPhones, are not totally working. People have been able to restore the iPod and WiFi features, but are not able to make phone calls. "So far all attempts to downgrade the baseband have been unsuccessful," the Wiki said. "There have been several reports of successful baseband downgrades online, but these haven't been confirmed."
