Hamid Karzai Continues to Push for Peace Talks
Talks of peace between the Afghan government and the Taliban forces continue as the Afghan President Hamid Karzai urged hostile Taliban militants to accept his laws.
The Taliban refused to talk for peace until all foreign nationals are withdrawn from the country, but the Afghan government responded by saying that this demand is unreasonable, that it is unlikely any of the U.S. or NATO forces will be withdrawn until they lay down their arms. But Karzai has used U.S. and NATO support funds to provide the members of the Taliban with jobs and housing to help integrate them into the new government.
In spite of Karzai’s efforts, attacks against his government continue. Late Saturday, a roadside bomb struck the vehicle of two Afghan soldiers. The soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in the Chora district of Uruzgan.
Karzai continued to urge the Taliban towards talks of peace and works with U.S. and NATO reconstruction funds to find them a place in his new government.
