'The Hangover Part II' dominates the Memorial Day weekend box office

The Hangover Part II dominated the Memorial Day weekend box office after exceeding the $100 million mark on Saturday, making it the highest grossing three-day opening ever for an R-Rated comedy.

According to Thedeadbolt.com, the highly-anticipated sequel accomplished this hurdle after grossing $31.7 million on Thursday, another $30 million on Friday and a continued domination throughout the weekend. So far, the movie has approximately $118 million in ticket sales.

The comedy also holds the No. 1 spot for the widest R-rating opening ever with 3,615 screens, reported filmschoolrejects.com.

The original Hangover grossed $31.8 million during its first two days of release, while Variety reported that the sequel should max out at $138 million by the end of the weekend.

With Kung Fu Panda 2 with $53 million and Pirates of the Carribbean:On Stranger Tides at $39.3 million, this is recorded as the highest grossing Memorial Weekend box office ever.
