Hank Williams, Jr.: quit or fired?

Hank Williams Jr. will no longer be hosting Monday Night Football on ESPN, but it is unclear whether he was fired or quit.

The network officially announced the singer’s dismissal Thursday. That same day, Williams appeared to take back the apology he previously issued for comparing President Obama to Hitler. He claimed that he received many messages from supporters telling him not to back down on those comments. Williamsclaims that he left his post of 20 years voluntarily.

One supporter was Rush Limbaugh, who was dismissed by ESPN in 2003 for comments made during Monday Night Football which were deemed racist. In 2007, he said that the NFL was like a showdown between the biker gangs the Bloods and the Crips, but without weapons.

“It’s official now,” said Limbaugh on his syndicated radio show Thursday. “All public references to Adolf Hitler are banned unless you compare Hitler to Republicans or Tea Party supporters. You can do that, but if you compare Hitler to Democrats, you are finished.”
