Happy Apple iPad Day

Dozens of people wait in lines for hours to snap up the iPad.

Waiting in line for hours while wearing a cardboard cutout isn’t something most people would sign up for, but these people have something most don’t: an iPad.

Tracy Kahney made an iPad costume for her nine-year-old son Lyle to wear while the duo waited in line for the elusive gadget, The New York Times reports.

April 3 marked the first official day Apple’s newest digital product the iPad hit stores, and crowds swarmed the stores. According to the Times, dozens of customers waited in lines starting at 4 a.m. from San Francisco to New York.

It was a bonding experience for most. People struck up conversations with strangers in line next to them, and Apple workers handed out free snacks for their patient customers, the Times reported. Apple stores opened their doors at 9 a.m. and workers clapped for the devoted cult-like Apple fans in appreciation. Most of the eager recipients declared the iPad would change the world and their lives.

But before you bow down to the iPad, the Times pointed out its few flaws. More than one application can’t run simultaneously, and Adobe’s Flash program doesn’t run well. Flash is used for copious Web sites and videos. Guess we’ll just wait for the better version.
