Harrison Ford Discusses Fifth Installment of Indiana Jones
Indiana Jones was a breakthrough in moviemaking and how we view our action heroes. No longer would our action heroes be portrayed as gritty, big tough guys with very little brains and crazy plans that had a million-to-one chance of working. Instead, now we have some smart, funny action heroes with lots of brains, and, crazy plans that have a million-to-one chance of working.
We owe it all to the Indiana Jones franchise. It showed us the sexy, action-packed side of archeology. It's not all old rocks and bones. Ford said that the new film in the franchise is full of opportunity, and will be fun for him to make.
"I don't think I'll do it in a wheelchair," he said in a Friday interview with MTV. "George [Lucas] is working on an idea, and if it comes to a fruitful stage, all of us are very interested in making another."
Now those of us that saw "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" are taking these comments from Ford with a grain of salt. Although it was a great financial success, many fans felt they took too many liberties with Jones's fantastical abilities (able to survive a nuclear blast, for instance). Also, the adherence to actual archeology and history was very loose, just look at the crystal skull's shape compared to the original found in South America.
Ford, in the movie's defense, said that Lucas's idea for the next film is going to be "crazy but great."
