Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Conjures Up $159.7 Million
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is on its way to becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer, to the surprise of absolutely no one. Five days after opening, the 6th installment in the "Harry Potter" franchise has conjured up a handsome $159.7 million domestically, $30 million more than its predecessor, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which made $139.7 million in its first five days.
Yet, "Half-Blood Prince" still trailed behind "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," which made $200 million its first five days. Internationally, "Half-Blood Prince" has made $237 million in 54 countries.
The present amount, coupled with positive reviews, has "Half-Blood Prince" off to the fastest start in the franchise history, with a chance that the movie might even surpass the $300 million domestic mark that was taken in during the series' first installment, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.' head of distribution, told the Associated Press.
